    11" wide! Sheeeeeiiiiiitt!

I think I heard Dylan8 mention this, what does removing the helper springs do?

    Thanks.

Removing the helper spring gives you the ability to lower the car, while still having the adjusting collar pretty high up the thread.
Wider wheels will usually rub their tyres on the adjsuting collar if you try to lower them too much. This just lets you go lower
Basically it lowers the car the thickness of the compressed helper spring.

(Someone correct me if I'm wrong)

11" wide, wish I was cool like you Simon
    Will look nuts though.

    pretty much what Simon said.
you have your normal spring and then the helper. when compressed these give you 'x' height (say 20cm for the sake of it)
when removing the helper this may lower that height to 15cm (again, those heights might not be correct, just for the sake of this comment)
so removing it it allows the car to be 5cm lower while keeping the adjuster higher up the thread of the coilover, futher out of the way of tyres and wheels.
When running wider wheels or decent sized tyres, this becomes important.

Even with the helpers out the issue of the adjuster hitting the side wall of my tyres is one major factor stopping my mk4 going lower.

    Thanks guys! Ultra quick response!

I don't think I have that problem (of the tyres rubbing the coilover collars), my tyres just seem to be rubbing; from the front right tyre, on the inner wall/guard (rear of the tyre). Only happens on full lock to the right in reverse, and only once in a blue moon, now I've had to raise it a bit more, due to the GTI engine being heavier and the stock sway bar rubbing way too much on the right driveshaft.

I'm pretty happy a few mm higher at the moment, as this is my only car, and it's a daily driver in Sydney peak hours, accross some rough road patch-ups!

I'll keep an eye out for collar rubbing though, and definitely get some pics up on this thread. I already owe a few belated images up here, and thanking Dylan (you wheel guru), for helping me with specs and wheel know-how, to choose my suspension & rims back in Dec '11, getting where I am now.

Could everyone who posted in here post the same info in this thread : http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...l-q-76233.html

I tried to move it but being older info then the thread it pastes it as the first post.
Ill lock this thread and copy some across manually later if others dont
