Some of your suspension bushes may be on the way out, causing the sound. The rubber bushing may have worn out to a point that you have a metal on metal sound. You best bet is to rock the car and narrow down to where the sound is comming from, then work out what needs to be changed/replaced.

    Loose some weight!
Hahahaha, sorry couldn't help myself. Happens to me as being 6'3 and 90 odd kilo's.

I honestly don't think its anything to worry about, I tend to notice it more when your on an incline of some sort.

LoL! true some personal weight reductions might be in order
yeah i notice it on an incline as well. Sounds to be coming from the rear and it does sound metal on metal but i noticed under the bonnet the strut caps are well lifted from the strut tower indicating the strut bushes are stuffed. so might look at replacing all the bushes soon.

Apart from the struts and control arms what are the bushes should be replaced while I'm at it?

    creaky suspension

If it is coming from the rear, it is possibly the handbrake (no not your wife or g/f either ). If there is the slightest of movement when you get in or out of the car, the wheels can sometimes move just enough to get a creaking sound where the disc moves against the brake pads. It is only the tinyest of movement that causes the squeek/creak.

Yeah thats what I believe it to be, happens on my car alot with my funny driveway when I get in and out of the car with handbrake on. I also get the same sound when I take off at the lights with the handbrake on as well

...Not that you would want to be doing that...

Thats what it absolutely is guys just the handbrake , not bushes or anything wrong there they all do it , all marks. When i was in the dealership it wasnt uncommon to have on the repair order to check creak from rear during egress. No fix , characteristic. More than Vw do it. Nothing to worry about
