Question Newbie with a brake and trans issue

    Hi Guys,

Firstly thanks for allowing me to join, looking forward to reading through the forums for ideas and tricks/tips

So, I recently purchased a 2001 Golf (first timer in the brand) and love it but have found a few problems. Firstly the brake vacuum valves are hissing and VW tell me that they are $141 each What The?????? can you get them cheaper elsewhere?????

Also one other problem is the trans is slipping. VW also tell me that its best to buy a good second hand trans instead of doing a fluid/filter change, if so, any decent places to look for second hand in Adelaide?

    Cheers

The check valves on the brake vacuum lines? just ebay vacuum check valves, they're pretty cheap. I think $5 ea.

Though before you go down that road, I'd be checking it isn't the hoses, the valves are pretty simple, hard to break. The hoses are known to rot and crack, you can easily replace most of the vacuum hosts in the car with a couple meters of silicon vacuum hose.
    What engine is it?

As for trans slipping I don't know anything about automatics, sorry.
