    Rear chair release busted

    Hey guys,

In the Bora I went to release the rear seat to put it down the pull plastic bit broke off. Some local guy said it could cost $100-$500 depending on the work ( tosser ).

Is it as simple as removing the plastic cover ( it is already broken ) and finding the metal rod thank links to the latch? "Apparently" it is a common problem... Am I on the right track or is it some stupid complicated thing??

You can go fishing through the boot with a long screwdriver and try and open the latch that way. It works on Golf 3s etc.

You should be able to do it that way.
Otherwise seat dismantling will be the only way

Yeah the only issue is that there is a 50kg sub box that goes across the rear wheel arches.

Maybe ill have to try and dismantle it... anywhere best to start?

If you havent fixed this yet, i had the same problem on my on my 99gti. A piece of the rod broke off right near the latch (the bit that pulls the latch up).
I decided after ages of the screwdriver through the boot method of opening that i would have a go at fixing it.

What i used was fibreglass. i mixed a bit of resin up, put in a tiny bit of glass matt and stuck the rod to the latch. I just made sure that the glass fibres went up into the space where the piece of rod broke off. So far its holding and working well. much better than getting into the boot.

I might even be able to take a pic if you need me to be more detailed.

Hope this helps if you havent sorted it already.

Yeah so far I haven't been bothered to give it a go.

How did you get to find the rod? I can peel down my leather a bit ( around the plastic release )to get a look but didn't go much further incase their was an easier way to actually free it.

Ha welcome to the forums btw.
