Newb Question about Haldex 4wd Systems

I met I guy from the forum a couple of days ago (Hi polo_spec_d if your reading) he was telling me about a Haldex 4wd thingo.

Just wanting to know peoples opinions on these things, and answers to a couple of questions?

Can you really put all power to the rear wheels with them? (Cos that would be sweet!!!)

How much are they to buy/install?

If any members have installed them already have they had any problems?

Will it work with a Bora 4mo?

your boro 4mo is the same system as used on the MkIV R32 and the audi S3 (8L)

I think you are enquiring about the haldex controller upgrade.

Guy Harding is the aussie Agent for these. they are around $1500 and easy to install.

I'm not sure if they send more power to the rear, but they engage the rear a lot quicker when front slip is detected.

Ive got one in my 4motion. It makes a noticeable difference in handling when powering through/out of corners, especially in the wet. Without the upgraded controller it had a tendancy to understeer while now it is more neutral. I was hoping it would allow me to induce oversteer but it doesn't seem to be that aggressive. I used to have a TommiMakkinen EVO6 and the AYC system in it
(similar to the Haldex) was far more aggressive in pushing the back end around.

Yes the Haldex system has the potential to send all the power to the rear wheels under certain conditions and no you cannot control the power distribution. It is purely done by the computer and slip angles. The latest Haldex controllers for the MkV etc have a computer which controls how aggressivly the transfer happens but I believe this still doesn't control the power distribution. Older versions of the Haldex Bora 4Motion, MkIV R32 etc don't have this controller as an option. There's plenty more involved and there are some good threads on the MK5 forum and on Vortex about Haldex.

To elaborate further. The Haldex will transfer all the power to the rear wheels when the fronts are slipping completely such as if they are on ice or something similar.
In my car if I turn the traction control off it works pretty well. You here the front wheels start to slip a little and then it just goes away and you can punch it hard, the is a bit understeery but you can still get a little bit of oversteer if you try. If I leave the traction control on however, it will cut in before the Haldex does.
My new suspension setup is now much more neutral, but with a little bit of oversteer if you push it.
The upgraded Haldex module will increase the response time of slip detection as well of the speed of the transfers, which in turn will improve the handling.

The haldex upgrade, basically works on throttle position plus a whole bunch of other sensors from the ECU. The standard relys mainly on slip detected from the wheels and than transfers power.

The upgrade is worth it, small but noticable and you will really notice it if you drive a bit more spiritidly.
