    New cat-back exhaust

My Car has been sounding crap lately.... (Golf GTI 2000)

Heatshield has been rattling so i took it to a mechanic around the corner from my house, they said my flextube is cracked, resonator is also cracked and i have some of my old cat near the muffler or something.

So i am looking at getting a new cat-back exhaust system, most probably Volkswagen Golf IV 1.8T > Exhaust > Cat Back > ES#1892646 Cat Back Exhaust - 15667
and just getting the local mechanic to fit it for me

has anyone had any experience installing a miltek exhaust? also ordering from ecs is there anything else i need to order? clamps etc etc

Says it includes clamps and hangers. I'd get the one for cars with cut out and then get the 4Motion Golf rear valance with the cut out, looks much better than tips sitting out under the standard valance and not as low to the ground.

    Thanks Tazzy,

I would prefer to go the most simple option as possible as i will be getting someone else do do the work as im not that great around cars.

How much would i be looking at to get someone to install a cat-back? $100-200? i couldn't see it taking that long

    Cheers

you can probably get a custom system for much cheaper and it will be basically the same if you go to the right supplier

Tyler your PM's are turned off, can't reply to you.

Gravey that *may* be true, but I've yet to see a custom cat back at a similar quality / price level as what you can get from the USA at the moment, and one that has been R&D'd to sound right, the biggest problem with any aftermarket exhaust. I've looked into a lot of custom exhaust options, and they all ran at least $500 for cat back, and $1k for a full system, and no guarantee how it would sound / would it be a heap of sections all welded together rather than long mandrel bent pieces such as ECS and 42DD etc do. Every typical weld join decreases flow!

I've been quoted $850-$950 installed for a mandrel bent stainless steel system - so no, I very much doubt a $500 custom system would compare to magnaflow or miltek.

There is no reason why someone in Australia who knows their stuff can't replicate a Miltek Exhaust - its not rocket science. You have to find the right shop - the good ones will have the mufflers on display and some even provide soundbytes and videos so you know what you are getting. One shop even said they would swap the muffler if I wasnt happy. There are a number of members running custom exhausts.

The tuning shop I'll be going to who also specialise in exhausts have done a lot of high profile cars - they know their stuff. Each to their own though. The dollar certainly does make the Magnaflow attractive...wonder what shipping is?
