Hey guys, great forum you've got here.
It was time for my my 400,000 km old Commodore to go so I started a <$20,000 car hunt a couple of weeks ago.
I'm young and live in a slightly dodgy suburb (insurance is an issue) so I started off looking at the Subaru Impreza RS 2.5 - not a bad car but pretty crap quality and waaaay too much NVH considering the (not that great) performance available.
I moved on to (manual, base model) Liberty and Mazda6, which were nice except that I felt that buying one would be like taking dancing lessons from my dad. No thanks.
This is when my old man (who drives a rather tasty black on black Jetta 2.0T DSG) suggested I look at the MKIV Golf GTI. It only took me 200 metres behind the wheel of one to realise it was an excellent car.
I drove a few (including chipped examples) and eventually bought a silver GTI owned by one mature lady. It has cloth/Recaro trim with no fading or blemishes on the inside, looks and feels like a new car (has done 60,000kms) with new Potenzas, FSH and zero mods.
I feel like a kid on Christmas eve, I pick her up tomorrow night and can't wait!
Anyway, I hope you don't mind another car nut around here, particularly one that's new to MKIV loveliness.
P.S here are some pics from the advert. I'll do proper ones later.

Welcome aboard mate. Don't worry, we won't hold your bad taste in Commodores against you. Just jokes
I moved from a couple of Falcons to a MKIV GTI in Reflex silver too, it was the best thing I did and wonder why I didn't do it sooner. Make sure you put some money away to have the timing belt replaced in the future, although with 60k kms you should be right for some time.
I know what it's like waiting to pick up your new car! I had to fly to South Aussie to get mine. But when you first take the keys to it your heart races and you will feel like a little kid all over again!

mk4 the mods begin for round 2 hahahha
Dude they are great.
I've only driven III, IV and V but I've got to say the IV makes an excellent compromise across comfort, performance, quality, safety etc.
I've just got to pick it up and find some roads now... is the Royal National Park (Sutherland, Sydney) any good?
nice buy! welcome to the forums![]()
