new beetle reliability??

hi folks
my other half is looking to buy a a use beetle (2001 onwards model).

How reliable are these cars?
are servicing costs expensive?

trying to swing her to a polo gti instead, but she refuses to drive manual

i would check out newbeetle.org its a US based forum that has heaps of members. since they sell many more in the US than here it can give you a better understanding of what can go wrong with them.
My wife has had a convertible since new in 03 and not had anything except window regulator issues within the first 12 months but nothing else since.
The usual things should be checked depending upon the k's done.
I think in general they are pretty reliable.
servicing costs will depend upon where you go and what k's its up to.
dont have mine serviced at a dealer anymore but when i had the 15,000k one done it cost me around $350 at a dealer.
my 08 jetta and 07 polo gti cost around $225 for minor servicing at a VW/Audi specialist.
