Maybe they didnt fit the power or earth strap on properly after they did the clutch?
Ok let's try this again in the right section.
Ok so I have borrowed a 2003 1.8 manual golf from work which might buy.
It has just had fluids done/ filters/ new brakes/ new clutch the only thing needed is the service warning to be wiped.
Drove home very well. Tried to start it again and nothing.
I turn the key I get a beeeeep from the dash with every dash light on.
Then all dissapeer except Service warning and engine light.
Car dosnt even try to turn over then I cantturnthe key again.
Batteries not flat. No aftermarket alarm.
Any help needed,
Urgent and appreciated.
Btw hello everyone

Ok so I have realised that it is also givin me this.
It beeps and gives me the service/ engine light.
THEN I get the HOT engine red warning flash at me and 3 beeps which correspond, is it stopping me from starting? The car is cold btw and never overheated
Maybe they didnt fit the power or earth strap on properly after they did the clutch?

Hmmm I'm getting electrics, everything works but the engine.
Ok so sein as the hot light was flashing and beeping at me I checked the (new) coolant. I noticed leading Down Into the coolant overflow tank is 2 prongs hooked up to a sensor which did not quite reach the coolant so I topped it up. Only took about 2 cups.
The coolant light/ beeping / warning is now gone!
No more luck with starting, however the EPC light is on.
Any one know their way around engine management ****? Do I disconnect the battery or reset it or something?
you can try discinnecting the battery for an hour or so but if its a serious fault it will come right back. Best to get it scanned with vagcom/vchecker

i have it disconnected atm, gonna hook it up in the morning, if i can start it i can get back to work.
I work at a new car dealership, the golf is a wholesale car to me, well, might not be if its a major problem.
but i just need to get it and me to work tomorow am.
any ideas what it would most likely be and why it was so sudden on such a smooth running car?
i just need it to start once
Yep seen this or something similar, check the aux fuse box on top of the battery, the heavy red can be melted in there, best way to check is to jump the output side of that with 12v from the positive terminal next to it. I had one that looked whole but had open circuit, only just so it would allow you to turn the ign on but when you asked it to start it lost everything and caused havoc with the dash. So to recap it in the aux fusebox, from memory the one i had was the one covered by the 110 amp strip fuse
good luck

Good advice thanks for the input, very possible actually the workshop brold the plastic clip holding the box ontop of the battery so it just sits loose. I thought nothing of it but maby it's more.
Car didn't start thismorning :/ batt was unhooked all night
Stupid suggestion: have you got the correct gear engaged (Park for auto), feet on (clutch) + brake
Manual
But yeah tried all of that
Is it even cranking ?
Do you have a 2nd key ? Maybe the immobiliser is locking you out.
