Need info on mk4 golf gti

Hey guys i am seriously considering purchasing a mk4 golf gti in the near future and am trying to look for as much info as possible. I have heard stories about these cars eating up large amounts of oil, is this true???

Also what are the recommended mods and how much would i be looking at roughly?

I would be hoping to achieve somewhere between 150 and 170kw atw. From what i have read so far the chip, exhaust ko4 turbo upgrade, front mount intercooler and intake upgrade only produces around 140kw.

Reason i want more power is that i currently own a supercharged corolla making 136kw atw and runs 13.7 qtr mile. If i buy a new car it has to be able to be quicker than that and i'm not so sure that the gti is capable of that without spending HUGE amounts of money.

Also info on things like LSD's and gearbox strengths or any other important things i might need to know.

    Thank you

Hmmm, interesting about the oil, which I can comment on from personal experience, I've owned mine since new (3 years) and I have never had to top up the oil between changes, not ever.

Interesting - I've never heard of a mk4 gti eating oil. Where did u hear that? As for what they are capable of doing down the 1/4 I'm not too sure. Have you been for a drive in one yet?

1.8T's have a nasty habit of oil sludging in the sump, blocking the pick-up and sludge collecting in the head if the wrong oil and lazy service intervals are used.

Gearbox isn't amazing but will hold big power if you treat it right

150kw@wheels should be do-able with the KO4 but not much more! GT28xx if you want ~200kw+

Looking at about $1k + Installation for an LSD for the 1.8T gearbox.

-If you are looking only at 1/4 mile times you are posting in the wrong forum; just buy a GTR and be done with it.
-The VW 1.8T engine is one of the most reliable engines ever built; and the proof is the number of cars it is used in without problems (also bigger and heavier cars like the A4 ); so oil consumption is not a problem unless the engine is worn/abused or neglected
