need help with a new beetle ecu

Hi everyone i'm new here, I'm hoping you could help me out of a spot of bother.

My beetle has the dreaded check engine light syndrome and i'm told that i need another bosh ecu and the price of a genuine one nearly gave me a heart attack !!!

My local parts dealers (eg: repco, autobarn, global) claim that there isint an aftermarket bosh oem replacement one available and that genuine is my only option.

At this point i'll even consider a s\h ecu if it will get me out of trouble

please please please help..........

One of the aftermarket chip/tuning companies might be able to help you out.

Just out of curiosity - has it been scanned with VAG-COM? Who told you the ECU needed to be replaced? They aren't exactly a consumable item normaly and I haven't heard of them going dead in a golf/bettle.

I guess what I'm saying is have you taken it to a VW specialist (not a dealer/stealer)?

Also - update your location so we know where we can point you towards.

I would be most surprised if the ECU needed to be replaced and the car still runs.

I would advise that you get someone else to look at it. Throwing an ECU at a car without a proper diagnosis is foolish.

If they did scan it, get a copy of the codes and look them up on the net

I'ts been with gold coast vw for 4 months And they said it needed an ecu, They sent the ecu away to someone in Vic to see if they could flash over the error but had no sucess and then they quoted me $3400 for another ECU!!!
I nearly had a heart attack !!!!

I went to mike webber prestege performance for a second opnion and he's confirmed the same fault that the ecu keeps coming up with a "Checksum error" fault code

But the check engine light doesn't come on straight away, it might come on 5minutes after clearing the codes or it might come on after 1hr, very random, but it always comes on

What really burns me about this is that it just decided to do this when it overheard me talking about selling it !!!! bugger of a car !!!

As i need it gone as the repairs will eat into the profits which is the deposit on our first house, so it couldn't of happened at a worse time

the weird thing is
car drives runs and idles perfect, no loss of power, none of the cars functions have been affected other than the check engine light on *AARGH*
Some one suggested to me that i should just black out the check engine light but i couldn't live with myself selling someone a car that isint running correctly

for intrests sake this is our baby, when it's healthy again i'll be sad to see her go

I your opnions what do you think it's worth ?? 2000 model 9c 100'000kms 2Ltr lowered, factory bodykit and 17" VW wheels, tinted windows...?

Ok - if it's throwing a check sum error then it's stuffed.

When a computer goes to shut down it stores and number relating to it's current setting.

When you start it up it looks to see if that number matches.

If it doesn't - you get a checksum error (in very basic terms).

I'd still sugest speaking to the manufacturers of after market computers like APR/Oettinger/Revo/Giac to see if their after market product will help you but I doubt it seeing as you have a read/write/store issue with your ECU.

Bad news in my opinion.

But nice buggy

Would it be much cheaper ? plus the price to tune these ecu's would be extra? do they do a chip or an exchange ecu ?
