Need advice for 2001 Bora 2 litre

    Hi all,

    First real post!!

Got a couple a questions for my hand me down 2001 Bora 2 litre.

1)The computer shows a difference in the fuel consumption reading, last time i refuelled vs. computer readings showed a difference of 6 litres (as opposed to 0.5 litres 3 years ago).

2)I feel like my fuel consumption is getting worse. After checking my service receipts, I'm not sure if my spark plugs ever being changed, the receipt for the 45k/3 year service shows a "fuel injection service" and "injection kit - Fp-No. NG71815K". Does that men that the steallers just "cleaned the spark plugs" or actually changed them?

3)Will a CAI make a difference in terms of fuel consumption?

    4) My engine code is APK, after doing some googling I've arrived at the conclusion that it's the same as an AEG(from NKG & ECS websites). I've interested in this:

Will it work on my car & is it worth the money, am I better off going to a place like Volks Power for changing stuff like this?

5)Please make some suggestions to how i can get my car to run more economically. I also have 252/40r 18-inch rims which I'm pretty damn sure adds to my fuel consumption.

    Thanks in advance guys.

    I'd say 02 sensors at a guess...
Current: '04 Astra SRI Turbo - EDS IPF Flash, 3" TBE, Quaife LSD
Previously: Bora 4mo, cams, coilovers, tune, exhaust, brembo's etc

You should not go replacing stuff unless you know it is broken.

The dealer would not clean spark plugs, that would cost more than new ones.
NGK is a spark plug brand, it looks like that could be the part number VW uses.

CAI will not help fuel economy.

Why not take the car to a VW specialist and tell them your concerns for fuel consumption. They can check it over and only replace what is actually broken.

How many km on the car now? when was the last service ?
    MK4 GTI - Sold
    MK5 Jetta Turbo - Sold
    MK5 Jetta 2.Slow - Until it dies.

Nice hand me down you have there
be a sensor my guess. could be any. O2, MAF, etc, the normal. is your temperature gauge reading at exactly 90oC after 10mins of driving? that could narrow it down.
Bigger/wider wheels will. normally the weight factor i think. i had 225/40/18s on A8 reps (~25kg each), and you can feel the cars pain.
as JustCruisn said, how many KM?
My 2lt got to around 120-130,000km and i replaced a fair few bits that were causing a sluggish/jerky acceleration and poor fuel economy. Spent around $1000-1500 on parts and labour and testing but it was worth it after as the car ran the best since i owned it.
