    Naked MkIV GTi

    i,

I just bought a MKIV GTi, a nice black one dropped nicely so its flushed with the tyres. I'm not a fanatic but am starting to fall in loves with VW and slowly becoming an enthusiast. The engine is stock thus I want to do some subtle and progressive work to it to boost the performance and the overall look of the car.

Just wondering if anyone have any suggestions of what would be the first steps I should take to boost the performance?

I'm first thinking of an airfilter and maybe a Blow off valve but don't know what product/brand I should get or where from? (I Live in the western suburbs in NSW)

My price range is between low to mid.

    Any help would be great!

    Cheers,

    Kurt.

Everything you want to know about the MK4 or any other watercooled Dub is basically on here...Chips, intakes, wheels, suspention, bodykits...Ask heaps of questions if you get stuck...The 'Search' function on here is a massive help, and check out the 'Stickys' too.

Above all, welcome to the forum, and have fun.

firstly welcome to VWWa! you'll get an answer to any question here.

the main thing people will tell you to do is get a chip mate (otherwise know as an ECU tune or reflash). there are a few companies out there that manufacturer chips for the MKIV 1.8T engine, which whether you may or may not know is also shared with the Audi A4, previous shape Audi S3, previous shape Audi TT, VW Polo GTI and other VAG cars.

i personally have the APR chip and have benefited from a 40% power gain, along with staggering torque figures for a car this size.

for $1,590, leave other mods til after.

see the website above for APR products, or seek info from Oettinger, REVO and GIAC, which are other reputable companies.

    Cheers,
    Rhys

Welcome to the forum mate. Spending other peoples money is always fun.

Agree with the above posts, an ECU upgrade will make you feel like you have a different car, HUGE difference and the best bang for buck.
Forget about filters at this stage as it will give you bugger all/nothing. As for a blow off valve forget that too, ours cars use a recirculating Diverter Valve and with the APR or similar chips the stock one will be fine if it is in good nick.

Your car is lowered, do you know what dampers are you running? If they are stock then a good plan would be to upgrade those as the stockies won't last too long with lowered springs, or maybe you have coilovers?

The next thing after taking care of those would be to get a nice rear anti-sway bar, that will make another big difference to the way the car feels when cornering and give you another good bang for buck.

That should keep you busy for a while.

    Cheers,

    Snowy
