    My Mk4 buildup thread...

Ok, so I have a few things on the go and I don't even know if I can list everything I've done so far - but here goes.

    Mods to date in order:

    ABD turbo intake pipe
3" intake pipe to modified airbox
    APR chippies
    Eibach springs
    Reamus rear box
Front and rear whiteline sway bars
    Neuspeed intercooler pipe

Last week I paid a visit to vw_tech who gave the car a much needed service and gave me plenty of little pointers. We replaced the plugs, oil, oil filter, fuel filter. We used the newer style plugs (cant think of the name of them) but they have made the car much smoother sounding. Big thumbs up - thanks again mate!

At the moment the car is off the road having my KW v2 coilovers fitted. Whilst all the bouncy bits are out I thought I'd replace all of the bushes whilst I'm at it (the car has done 120k and i knew one of them was rs). I cant think of the brand name of them - but I'll get back to you all with that shortly.

I'm also upgrading the dogbone mount which should help eliminate a fair bit of the wheel tramp. Once it's back I hope to play around with the sway bars with the coilovers to get the handling top notch. I really cant wait to drive it again and put it through some twisties. It was the one thing I really thought lacked after taking the car for it's first spirited run. The swaybars on their own was an amazing difference, so I can't wait for the coilovers now.

Next up I have a rieger rear bar sitting under my bed that is waiting to be painted up along with side skirts (not too sure about them yet though). I also have a boser hood extension that also requires a lick of paint and a badgeless grill (remaining black). I'm hunting for a set of wheels too but they will have to wait until I get up to Sydney cause I don't have enough room to move them up separate.

My new found mate Ian from Rennenhaus is also going to get some more toys in for me shortly. I'm getting the pod adapter that sits down in the front guard far far far away from the MAF. I'm also going to upgrade my n75 valve as I believe mine is the older style with the lesser load rating.

That's about all for now - well at least until the new year anyway. My next mod after that is something from within APR's catalogue. More on that to come later.

All sounds pretty good to me mate. You'll love the KW's, in IMHO you can't do better for coil-overs. Good move looking at the APR stuff, I've got the their chip and dog-bone mount too and couldn't be happier. If you already have the back part of the exhaust sorted maybe have a look at an APR down-pipe for up front, their stuff is relatively expensive but I've found the quality is awesome and the R&D on their products is thorough and spot on from my experience.

Keep us posted with the mods.

    Cheers,

    Snowy.

Thanks snowy! I have been more than happy with the APR chip but also the service I received from them and their re-sellers was fantastic! I'll always buy APR stuff with confidence.

Coilover and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over

I just got the car back after having the KWv2's fitted and ECS bushings all around including dog bone mount.

Firstly I'd like to thank James and his crew @ Audvolks. Since I destroyed my control arm bushing, I also managed to do a bit of other damage whilst I was at it. James is a gun - and a customer service extrodinare. He had to take part of my control arm to be machined to sort it out, and he wasn't happy with the job untill he got the car sitting less than +/- 1mm of where I wanted it. I can say with the up most confidence that he did an incredible job with the car and not a single corner was cut. If a tool was need - he got it. If he wasn't happy with something - he pulled it out and re-did it. I'm very thankfull to have found him to do the job.

When I arrived he showed me the different options that were available as far as bushings go. The red nolethane and the black ones. He recomended the black ones and I took his advice. The car is so responsive now to the steering wheel, and the dogbone mount realy stiffens up the engine side of things. He recomended to only do 1 part of the dog bone mount as fitting both could make it quite harsh. Again, i took his advice and am very happy with the result. Down low, you really do feel the engine more and if the revs drop to low the car definetly tells you so now. Under hard acceleration, the bouncing around of the front has ceased and the power gets down much smoother. To try and describe it is hard but it feels like you and the car work as one now rather than you having to tame the car.

And I saved the best till last. The Kw's. Words can barely describe the difference these have made. It's a firm ride but also very forgiving when driven normally. They glide over bumps without bashing the whole cabin around yet you feel they are yearning for more when you turn a corner. But turn the steering in that little bit further and with a good nudge of the accelerator you go from noddys little red car to MEGATRON!!! It's a feral animal now and I couldn't have a bigger grin on my face. I just love the control you have by keeping the steering wheel poised and just toying with the throtle. My favourite little chicane got a good work out tonight. Now I'm inspired to get this thing on a track so I can really stretch it's legs.

I'm not sure what my favourite mod is now. Chipping the car was an awesome modification, but calling the KW's a modification doesn't do it justice. I'm calling them my favourite transformation.

    Comng next are the HID's...

Pics to follow shortly once daylight permits.
