hi all, just a quick thanks for the info to remove the leather handbrake boot, really appreciated. now on the next challange, ive also ordered a :

its a new hand brake button. the problem exsists removing the old one??? it looks to be nigh on impossible. any help would be awesome!

thanks for the suggestion, but their suggestion was to call my vw dealer service dept.. Which i did. They stated that they didnt have much expirence with changing that part and couldnt offer any advice.. Im guessing because u can purchase the item that some how it can be removed with out using a pair of pliers and a blow torch!
I'm not sure if it would be the same as mine, but the button part just prises off - at least my old one did. I just removed it by hand - no screwdriver needed. Do you actually need to replace that whole assembly shown in the pic or could you just swap the buttons over?

i was about to say the same, if the mechanism is working, then you can just swap over the 'button' part which is showing by pulling it off. mine comes of pretty easily...

the mechinism is working, would still like to replace the whole thing if i could, just make me feel a little better about replacing somthing thats not broken. But i did try to take just the button off and it seems to be fitted on there quite firmly, dont really want to break it. Lol sometimes i think vdubs are put together too well!
well after some thought... and a little elbow grease. i realised that infact as mentioned above the button swapping exercise would be sufficient. and just as mentioned above a little effort (or quite a lot for the button in the car!) i was able to swap the buttons. the end result was the same, thanks guys for being the voice of reason.
