same as other cars, wheels, suspension, get it to breathe properly (proper exhaust and a CAI) and chip it
I think that every car should have these nods

i also have a bora (v6) and have spoken to others at lengths regarding mods, most recently with a highly regarded mechanic and vw enthusiast. The impression that i seem to be getting in regards to a chip and to a certain extent an upgraded exhaust is that it is a expensive venture with not too much reward for your efforts. This being quiet the opposite for our larger population of our GTI brothers (and sisters i believe). Just very roughtly a chip/software upgrade on a GTi can add upwards of 40kw of power and costs somewhere around the $1500 mark i believe. Where as for my bora i was told that for a CAI, header upgrade, chip upgrade and exhaust upgrade i could budget well above the $6000 mark and would be lucky to get any more than and extra 30kw all up.

Being in your position i would do the following first:

    a) a good set of coilovers, im riding on bilsteins which IMO are fantastic but KW's seem to be the most popular choice with our members

    b) closely followed by wheels of your choice (good luck in making your mind up

    c) k&n filter element which seems to have freed up the air flow and car is more responsive (im not sure how much difference a CAI would make, if someone has done this on a bora please let us know if its worthwhile)

and perhaps one day when i find a spare 10K in my backyard?? i would drop a supercharger in and see what happens (not sure if thats possible on your v5) but thats just me dreaming at the moment

Yeah ive done the CAI and K&N but ive got a v6 Bora. Not sure if it gave any more performance, but a little more response and a great tone! Exhaust sounds a lot better after the install and im only running a stocky (for now).

But yeah in the way of mods there isnt an awful lot you can do to the V6 on an average budget, and id say the V5 would be similar. Id say look into Exhaust, chip, cams, coilovers and wheels. Good luck and keep us posted on your mods!

Ok, thanks all who posted, im looking at purchasing a nice big fat set of 18's....I already have a pod on it, i have been told to watch out with some filters as they will screw up the MAF, dont want that happening! so i might see what else i can do in regards to induction but the 18's and a set of coilovers will be the first step.....then few cosmetic things i want some eye lids for it and tint the windows extrremely dark..then i will get onto an exhaust.....see how we go with that and like you said supercharger? one day if i can do it?

Yeah supercharger would be nice. Referring to the pod filter, i had problems with the K&N when first installed without CAI. The oil on the filter messes with the MAF sensor, but after installing the CAI ive had no problems. Its just a matter of getting the Filter a safe distance from the sensor.

If your after window tint, i know a guy who does cheap, good quality tint from home. He's done three of my cars and many mates cars and is in western syd. If you'd like his number let me know and ill dig it up. He has all sorts of tints including mirror, standard, different designs, limo ect. i had the limo tint on my cordia. Looks unreal but i wouldnt recommend it for night driving.

And some people disagree, especially on VWVortx but i love my eyelids.

Yer alot of people disagree with the eyelids, i found a set from the states he wanted $20 but shipping was $75, so i said i would pass. where did you get yours and how much did you pay? im in Melbourne so for me to get window tinting done would be a long trip just to get that done, i have a pod on already but it is just replacing the standard airbox.....where can i get the pipes from?! window tint, eyelids......thinking of smoking the rear lights....my car is white so could look alright or you guys think it will look cheap? i need ideas lol.....im gonnna drop it and put on some fat 18's, the light tint (if i do it) and eyelids will be just a cheap mod in between waiting.

thanks guys, you have been a great help so far....but keep the ideas coming

I got the eyelids off ebay. I think i paid about $50 including delivery and had to paint them myself. And the CAI kit i got from autoone. Paid $160 including the pod filter. Didnt think it would fit when i first got it but it did! Had to cut a little plastic from under the battery but its not noticable.

And as far as tail lights go you can buy tinting film off ebay. Im getting some for the headlights but i just sprayed my tails. First with a paint from autoone especially for head/taillights and then a clear coat for extra shine. Came up really good. Some people dont trust themselves with spraying them but mine came out really good.

O and i think you'll find you'll start getting your TC light and engine light coming on after time because of the oil on the filter.

Thats Phat....yer the film looks like the way to go, might just do both with the film because i guess i can remove it when ever i like..or the cops tell me too , lol not sure if i should do a light tint with the white car, looks awsome on yours, everything blacked out!.........autoone hey? where abouts are they? you notice more grunt with the whole CAI? mine is pretty punchy with just the filter.....but im greedy and i want it to be abit quicker.....dont want to go overboard with the car, just want it looking clean and fairly quick!.....you have done an awsome job, whats next on the books for you
