Push on the stone shield through the wheel with a screwdriver, and maybe the stone will fall out?
As for that noise are you sure it is not the metal wear indicator rubbing on the disk, as a warning you need new brakes ?

Nah it's way worse than that, its a worrying metal on metal grinding with extra hardcore noises to go with it. In my mind it sounds like the inside pad has cracked and split in half, rubbing on the rotor and jagging on the grooves on the rotor face. If is a rock ill be mighty impressed.
It happened while i was out at Morgan park last week. Doing a lap, everything was sweet, i then went did i hard brake and cue unholy metal on metal noise.
I checked my entire garage and car today. Gone. I'll follow up with Volkswagen Monday.

I popped down to my local dealer and they took my lock nuts off and installed some spare bolts I had when I got stuck. Still no idea on where my lock key went
I used this technique today. I found my spline kit, hammered it on and it held really well while turning the lock nut off. Thank you for the advice.
The outside pad has plenty left, but the inside pad had nothing left!!! This explains the insane metal on metal noise haha.
Do brake pads wear evenly?
Is one brake Pad subjected to greater forces than the other? ....maybe under the intense track conditions they just disintegrated because of cracking etc?
You might want to have a close look at those discs on the inside.
If they can't be machined, you might have to bin them.
With regards to the uneven wear, it's probably due to the slide bolds not being lubricated, as well as where the pads contact the caliper and it's bracket.

The rotors are currently 24.5mm in thickness, I believe minimum is 23mm. Is there enough to machine?
Also I'm using the tyrolsport brake stiffening kit which has solid brass slide bushings. I installed these less than a year ago, how often should they be greased?
I was actually amazed how great a condition the rubber slide pin bushes were in when I took them out. Maybe I should have left them there.
I'll regrease them anyway, maybe a bit more often...Gah what a pain in the butt.
Any chance the piston needs a rebuild aswell? 215km. How would I tell?

In our track and street driving experience with VWs and other vehicles equipped with ATE brake calipers, we have noticed uneven brake pad wear. This wear would usually manifest itself with the inner pad wearing faster than the outer, or tapered wear along the surface of the pad.
We never really understood what the root cause of this was until we analyzed the mounting system of the caliper itself. Upon doing this, we noticed rubber bushings are used to locate the caliper to the rotor. These rubber bushings allow the caliper to move under heavy braking, resulting in uneven brake pad pressure to the rotor.
The typical fix for this problem would be to used a fixed caliper design(Porsche, Stoptech). We decided to come up with a high quality, simple and easy solution without necessitating a different caliper or braking system.
So maybe the odd wearing occurred when I had the rubber bushings.. I'll order what I need and solve the problem this week.
