Mk4 Rear lights coming on by themselves

Hi all. The rear lights (both) have decided to come on when the car is turned off and if not noticed stay on till I disconnect the battery. Has anyone have the same issue before and what can be the cause??

Thanks guys. My dad is old drives with left foot on the brake all the time and of course other on the accelerator.. I thought what you said may be the case bit not sure... Thanks again will check and update you.

Thank you all..It was the switch.. the new one was 1 cm longer that the old one we removed.
