Mk4 R32 Tyre change

Hi guys,

Wondered how many of you have had to change a tyre on your Mk4 R32 over the years?

I have had two tyres destroyed in the past couple of months and had to change tyres, only to find out that the supplied jack is completely useless on an R32. I also read the manual which says that the Aus R32 doesn't come with a jack.... WTF?

Were the jacks included simply to allow the R32 to comply with Australian standards? I love the car but for the car to not have a spare tyre and have a useless jack seems to be a ridiculous oversight. It looks like I need to now go out and purchase a scissor type jack so that if I ever need to change a tyre I can.

Due to the amount of KM's I do, I even had to invest in a spare (which I leave at home) so that I can salvage the car without needing to fork out for a tow truck all the time.

Do some research on the 8L Audi S3 space saver. Some pop up every so often or you can buy a set directly from an Audi dealer (at a premium of course). The full kit includes a jack that works and you can normally specify a stainless or alloy unit it's not a perfect setup, the jack is regarded as useless at best or dangerous at worst. Also the space saver doesn't fit over the front brakes so if you get a flat on the front you need to put the space saver on the rear and move a good wheel to the front. The set also fits perfectly in the boot without taking up any space.

I've got a space saver from an Audi TT in mine. Once had a flat though on a road i had parked on with lots of camber. Was no way i was going to use the scary VW jack as the car would have just fallen over. Called the NRMA purely as they'd have a safer more stable jack.

I thought you shouldn't put space savers on your front anyway because well thats whats steering you and having the smaller width would affect handling a bit.

I'm fairly sure the reason the bora 4mo and r32 have space savers is because of space reasons really, due to the fuel tank being over the rear diff in the 4motion systems they could only fit a space saver com-paired to the full size in the 2.0

The R32 has no space saver at all from the factory only a puncture repair kit for which the foam went out of date back in 2008/2009. Yes you shouldn't put space saver on front especially but that normally doesn't stop people and it's always good to make people aware of this so they don't try and scratch the nice blue calipers.
