    MK4 Headlight Question...

Just a quick (possibly stupid) question regarding the MK4 headlights. There is a projector like lens under the indicator light bulb:

I can never get these to turn on. Are these my fog lights? Is there anything even in there?

Also pulling out the headlight switch to both settings won't illuminate any green fog light indicator on the instrument panel, it used to, but it doesn't seem to want to anymore

It would be awesome if I could get it working and just use them as driving lights!

    Cheers.

They are your fog lights (where fitted) if you had a light in the dash and it no longer works then I suppose the first thing to check would be your fuses. I have a 2000 model Golf GLE and the fogs are located under the indicator, mine work via the headlight switch by turning 2 clicks and then pulling out the switch one click, pulling out 2 clicks turns on the rear fog which is located in one of the reversing light sockets.

Sounds like a stupid question, but is the car chipped? A friends MK4 lost a few cluster lights after getting chipped.

You shouldn't need to turn the switch 2 clicks right (headlights on) to turn the fogs on, you only need to turn it one click (driving lights) then pull the switch out once for front fogs (there is no indication on the dash or switch that they are on) and pull twice for rear foglight (which will be indicated by a light on the switch).

Doesn't the rear fogs show up on the cluster? Mine are that way

It is the fog, try to turn it on by pulling the switch out 1 click, there is no dash light to show it is on.
Check the bulb, pull it out and apply voltage direct from battery. Don't touch the glass with bare hands.
If you need new bulbs they are H3 type.

My mistake, it's 2 turns and then one click on my GT Sport as it also has the " auto " position
