    MK4 GTI whistle

    G'day Gents,

Have had a odd whistle seemed to be from turbo at full boost. Thought I'd have a crack at fixing myself as I thought it would be a boost leak. Put engine under pressure and found a big crack in hose under plenum. Ordered new hose car runs much better but noise is still there......

It is a continuous squeel or whistle under full boost and cant find another boost leak which was my original thought.

Car is completely stock. Plus replaced DV as old one seized.

    Any Suggestions would be appreciated.

    Many Thanks

its not normal as it wasnt making that noise when I first bought it. Its not a sound like a rush of air as per all other turbo's I have owned its more of a squeel.

BI65ND just noticed your in coffs too.

Nah have had pod filter on and stock airbox many times to see if there might be a difference. Oddly to say it started after a mild 110k service from mechanic.

Almost like it runs too much boost ( thats why my original boost leak theory ) thought about buying a gauge to check.

Does it change with engine rpm??? was the cambelt changed at 105,000km?? i know the service book says otherwise but VW hve recently changed the requirements of the services. ( cambelt was 120,000km now is 105,000km. ) The feeling of too much boost could be because the camblet has slipped a tooth nd is running too far advanced . might pay to get it replaced ( could be the water pump is on the way out )

Just seems to create the noise at full boost in any gear no certain revs........... May be worth a look though
