700 km, damn! I'm lucky to get 520 km these days.
Have you done a search? There's a tonne of stuff on CAI..
Hi all,
got a stock mk4 gti and looking for some minor gains without having to chip.
Anyone offer advice re CAI and other cheap mods that will give me gains without touching ecu.
I,m aware of the products available for our model but was after some first hand opinions from you guys. What works and what are the most beneficial toys to add on to her.I get fantastic mileage at around 700km per tank and would hope any simple mods would not affect this also. The car is my daily commute and I am keen on a balance between performance and engine life.\Thanks in advance guys.

yeah dubbed been researching.Just find it hard to believe the 10 plus horses
10+ horsepower isn't surprising given you're talking forced induction and a CAI should give you both lower intake restriction and lower intake temperatures, both of which will help you get better power.
Nothing to see here...
stock snorkel gets air from the front vent, how does a CAI get any colder air? (if anything the air right above the road is hotter)
But yes it def can reduce the restriction, but with the standard tune, you will see very minimal gains.
Rather than spend money on a CAI, just get a meter of 3 inch hose and replace the factory snorkel.
Stock airbox is fine so unless you're trying to increase sound, leave it in.
I think cai on forced induction is a waste of time, any lower temps will be nullified as soon as the air passes through the hot turbo. For lower intake temps you need to upgrade that tiny intercooler the gtis have. IMO you won't see much, if any power increase on an un-chipped gti with an intake upgrade, I barely noticed mine even with a chip, awsome sound though. There is a reason why everyone recommends a chip as the first mod to a Mk4 gti....
Very little if anything to be had by changing the intake and probably lose power if you are sucking in warm air. Money better spent on a flash tune, you should be able to retain your fuel economy depending how you drive.
I got well over 700ks out of my flashed S3 driving back from Melbourne to Adelaide.

thanks again folks
