    Mk4 GTi

    Hi Fellow Dubbers,

I was wondering if there is any info on the mk4 gti such as a buying guide, which ones to look for, pricing, and tech specs, common faults, parts and availability,

    also, for instance which is faster a mk3 Vr6 or a mk4 1.8T?

i am dreaming of getting one one day...

    cheers

ANy issues with the Mk4? my mine concern is how well the mk4 copes with the Aussie weather....do the 1.8Ts get real hot?

    Any overheating probs? Common Faults?

im not too clued up on mk4s so any advice....

checked out trading post and the mk4 Gtis are steep.....20k +......seems really high to me.....

    cheers boys

Slower than VR6 stock for stock, but a chip really sorts it out.

No problems with Aussie weather - These things were built for freezing temps in europe and boiling weather in the middle east.

However, being turbo it will suffer a little bit in the heat compared to your normal NA car.

No real common faults, Coilpacks and MAFs will die but they aren't too expensive or difficult to replace.

Main thing is to make sure it was serviced, no late services, no skipped services, no cheap oil!! All turbo engines need good oil changes regulary to keep in shape and especially the 1.8t - It is known for oil sludge problems if not treated right.
