Thanks all for your help! These are all new terms for me lol. Learning a lot.
I think my best option is to take it to a performance shop and they can also help recommend something. I don't want the car to sound like a twat has done it up, just a little something extra to make it that litte more petite

Yes... A performance shop, where they will charge you tho highest price for little gain... Jump on the Forge Performance website and have a look...

Mine has a HKS SSQV from previous owner. I may sound a bit noobish but what's a diverted valve? I'm looking at changing to something a little less obvious.

Diverter valve recirculates the boost back into the intake when you get off the throttle, like a plumbed back BOV.

A lot of people have used the Forge 007 DV.
It is simple enough DIY, just make sure you have some rubber/silicone tubing for the actuator line (goes at the top) as the original will probably have perished and will break.

I thought that recirculating back to the inlet help keep up inlet pressure so that the engine wouldn't fall off boost between upshifts

The fall off in boost between shifts, is more down to the build up of pressure behind the throttle plate causing the compressor to slow down, rather than the recirculated boost.

I always understood the problem with not recirculating back into the inlet, was more to do with the loss of metered air. Causing the ECU to get confused.

The Forge 008 is a nice bit of kit, there are cheaper options.
