what headunit do you have? Got a pic or find one on the net?
id imagine it would have a pin. I found mine on a little piece of paper in the back of my service manual.
Hi Folks,
We have a 2004 (Nov 2003 build) Mk4 golf 2.0 sport. Great little car but the starter is noisy. I googled the fix and it seems that :
1. this is common and
2. the fix is to pull the starter and clean a regrease it.
I want to disconnect the battery to do this.
The issue I have is we rang Essendon Volkswagen to enquire about the PIN code for the radio and they said our model doesn't have one. Can anyone confirm thats correct?
I don't want to disconnect the battery and find they were wrong!
Any advice much appreciated.
Thanks Allan

Thanks Dylan.
Will check the book and post a pic when I get home. The only other thing we will do is ring Barloworld to check.
if its the single din CD one like my 02 gti, it has a pin.

The starter grease thing is only going to shut it up for a month or 2 at most.
I've done this 3 times, now I just put up with it. its been noisy for 5 years now i guess.
MK4 GTI - Sold
MK5 Jetta Turbo - Sold
MK5 Jetta 2.Slow - Until it dies.
If its the standard radio, it will have a four digit pin.
I've been to Barloworld to get the pin for a previous golf that I owned.
Not sure if you can just ring them to get it, as they need to prove tht you own the car.
I had to show them my licence and rego papers for mine. Good news is that it is free and they can look it up at the reception area.![]()

Hi folks,
Radio Brochure says 4 digit pin. No card in the glovebox or with the books. Looks like Essendon volks has given us a bum steer.
Will take books to to Barlo Moorabbin and try that. Otherwise it's off to complain to VW Australia I guess.

essendon gave me the code for a eurovox radio i got out of a mk3 for nothing, buuuut i saved it in my phone and its died so i tried to get it again and apparently eurovox changed the procedure and no longer provide codes to dealers. My understanding is if the car has an ECU the code should be within the memory of it, i know thats how it is with my coded factory radio in my commodore.
BTW i managed to dig the code out of my old phone too.
Driving the coal. Low and rattly.
worked the photo thing out. Pretty sure it has a code I mean what radio doesnt these days? Anyway thanks for all the help.
