    Mk4 Golf Spare Parts

    Hey there,

I regret to inform that I have had an accident. My car is a silver 2001 Golf 1.6. Just the standard GL 5sp 5door. I have third party insurance, so I'm left to my own devices as far as getting the car fixed up. I rear ended somebody and now I'm looking for some advice on how I should go about sourcing replacement parts. I will most likely do the majority of the labour with my father so I'm just looking for parts.

I'm mainly looking for non-retail parts as I don't know if I'd be able to afford parts from a dealership or something like that. So I guess that means I'm mostly looking for parts from wrecks.

As far as I know right now, the parts I need are a hood, grill, bumper, both headlights (maybe), radiator and auxiliary fan(s). I'm not positive on any other internal parts as of yet as we haven't got the hood up yet, the latch is jammed so we're probably going to have to cut it open.

The electrics work and the engine runs fine, although the power steering is gone and the coolant has leaked out from where the radiator was damaged.

I'm a little lost at the moment and don't really know where to start as far as finding all of these parts. I only really know that if I try and get new parts, I'll be looking at some extortionate prices. Last time I bought a part from a local VW dealership, it was a coolant temperature sensor and they charged me $80.

    Thanks in advance.

I have a radiator from an A3 1.8T Have a look for the part number on yours that might fit.

You can have it postage and $25 if you need it.

Stick some pictures up, might help folk see what you need.

Thanks guys, these could be very helpful. Unfortunately I'm busy for most of the weekend, but when I get back I'll post some pictures and check the model number on the radiator.

I'll also get back to you soon Schalke.

Just an update. I've messaged a few of you. I now have a full list of parts that I am tracking down, including a few things that are in need of replacement regardless of the accident.

    Make: Volkswagen
Model: Golf GL 1.6 5 Door 5 Speed
    Model Year: 2001
Colour: Silver Metallic (Paint Code: LA7W)
    Year of Manufacture: 11/2000
    VIN #: WVWZZZ1JZ1W430324
    Engine Code: AKL
    Parts List
    Body Parts:
    • Hood & Latch Assembly
    • Latch Support Panel
    • Complete Bumper Assembly including Reinforcement Bar
    • Grille Assembly
    • Complete Radiator Support Panel including Baffles and Fan Shroud
    • Right Headlamp Assembly incl. baffle
    • Left Headlamp Assembly incl. baffle
    • Right and Left Front Mudguard Splash Panels
    Mechanical Parts:
    • Radiator (Manual Transmission version)
    • A/C Condenser
    • Oil Pan
    • Power Steering Warning Switch (Unconfirmed)
    • Power Steering Pump (Unconfirmed)
    Mechanical Parts (New Parts Only):
    • Timing Belt
    • A/C Dryer
    • Rear Brake Pads

That power steering warning switch (at least that's what my father and I think it is) looks like this:

Also, just so it's out there in terms of shipping and such, I live in Alphington Melbourne, however at the moment my car and I are staying in Albury/Wodonga on the VIC/NSW border, about 3-4 hrs north of Melbourne.

    Thanks guys.

Just a quick note I though I might add, be wary of which tow company you use.

After having my car towed from the accident, I got it back with a missing lower bumper lip and a newly cracked oil pan which leaked oil all over the place and a nice Four 'n' Twenty sausage roll wrapper stuffed in behind the battery.

With my desktop computer packed into the trunk, I'm actually glad they managed to lock the keys in the car as well.
