mk4 golf license plate lights not working

hey guys i had led number plate lights previously and i bought a interior kit and it came with license plate lights as well. the new ones were alot brighter so i put them in and when i arrived at my mates i saw that they stopped working. i tried putting the old leds back in but they dont work as well. anyone got anything on this?

I tried to install LEDs in mine and when i put the second one in they both stopped working. I read on some other forum that one guys replaced his door harness and that fixed his number plate lights. I know my harness is worn cause the puddle light and the interior lights don't react when I open the drivers door. The door harness is a common issue for all mk4's.

The harness runs through the rubber grommet tube bit that you see when you open the door up. The mk4's (golf/jetta etc.) came out with a harness shorter than required and as a result the wires go bad overtime. I don't see why the license plate lights would be connected to the door harness in any way. With any luck yours is just a fuse though

actually if I recall correctly it makes a difference which way you put the LEDs in. flip them around (both new and old)

Why not just check if the fuse is blown, takes 2 seconds
