Mk4 golf Clouldy Glass Headlight Lenses ?

hey all , so i have noticed over the last few months that the glass lenses on my mk4 golf have started to cloud over , is there any thing i can do to try and fix this or should i just replace them with new glass lenses ?

i have searched and can only find information on bora lights as there lenses are plastic

where can i buy new replacement glass lenses from other then ebay or ECS? as shipping seems to be more then the lenses

if i can get some from in australia that would be great if not i will just have to pay the ridiculous shipping cost, also what brands best ?

i just spent 2 hours this afternoon doing that and there no better , it looks like its clouding from the inside out

If they are glass and going cloudy you probably have moisture in the headlight.

there going cloudy like a plastic len's not like theirs moisture in them , they never fog up or have water in them when it rains or after the car has been washed , there going yellow and cloudy like the plastic boras lenses do

I would buy replacements from ecs. Their shipping is expensive but very fast...should get here in about 1 week. Their products are good quality too.

Parts4Euro have them but shipping is $73 to Australia

I've only ever had plastic lenses, but I've done a few headlight "restorations"... These all needed to be sanded, then polished, then sealed. You can buy kits from auto stores which have everything you need.

Again, this is all based on plastic lenses though and I cannot speak for glass ones. Maybe someone can clarify?

spoken to a few people today about it and they all said the same as dylan8 that there is prob moisture getting in there , but such a small amount that i never see it

so do you think cause there glass that i could take the lens off clean it then re seal it or would it just be best to buy a new lens ?

you could split them, give them a good clean with something like methylated spirits, reassemble and seal the lens. once done could throw one or two of those moisture absorber sachets in the back (obviously not where itll get too hot and catch fire or jam moving parts) and pull them out a week or so later.
to make it even easier get a second set of headlights so you have something to fit to the car while you are repairing the others.

The headlights arent actually sealed as most people think, there is plenty of drainage holes and so on.
one of my old lights didnt have a cover on the rear of it, it got foggy on the inside from time to time in extreme weather or if I went too hard with the gerni at a certain angle. but they would dry out again after a while

hmm ok something to think about , i got 3days off work coming up so that would be enough time to doit , i have been looking for a excuse to joey mod them ...

they should clean up easier enough once apart , i might even polish and wax the back of them before putting them back together ?
