Would love to know how much this costs/how it works out if you can get it done.

Will not work, best bet is to get a 1.6 or do a conversion like me. Depends how much you have invested into your golf. If not much best to sell it and buy a GTI. Your engine will pop as its not made for running for a turbo.

Can you elaborate a little more on this? is it just that the NA motors have a higher compression ratio? because that can be reduced easily enough, or just run low boost.. or are the pistons/ conrods not forged? headstuds not strong enough?

1.8t engine was made to withstand a turbo. Pistons are forged. I had this conversation on the weekend with a mate who has a 1.6 and gavin who does tuning told hin the same. No one can tune a 1.6, theres no software for it. I did a conversion as i like the colour of my car and it was cheaper for me to do it rather than sell mine, buy a gti and respray it.

    im the 1.6 driver^^ ahah
Dont bother unless youre willing to do a conversion! not only is the engine weak the gearboxes arent made to withstand that kind of power.
There really isnt any point in modifying a 1.6 power wise as you really wont get anywhere without spending lots of money rebuilding everything.

Ive also got a cai/pod filter setup on mine and has made a fair difference in the exhuast note.
the furthest id go would maybe be a catback exhaust. but then again youre still wasting your money on something that wont give much difference other than a nice note and revving being a bit freer.

stick with visual/suspension mods with the 1.6. Thats all im doing and its keeping me happy for the time being. I would love something with more power but i just dont have the money and still being on p plates i cant drive a hpv until im on my fulls.
A good soundsystem can also do wonders! A subwoofer can overpower the exhaust note depending on how loud you like it
A nice set of wheels and dropped on the ground with coils will make a huge difference when you go to look at your car. have a look at my build if you want some ideas Goodluck!
