G'day, there all pretty much the same auto, There usually an alright auto but VW say they are "sealed for life", which really means "sealed till warranty ends" so not many people get them serviced which causes them to fail.
Hi guys,
Just wondering if you guys can shed any light on the type of auto in the mk4 2.0L golf. Just checked wikipedia, theres lots of info on the engines and codes but not a lot on the trannys.
Is it the same box that is in the mk3 2.0L ? Or even the 1.6L auto mk4? Just trying to work out how common it is.
Anyone know what a good nic one from a wreckers goes for?
Thanks in advance!
Christian

Prank, I returned to this thread as I wanted to re-read what Golf Loon wrote about the MK4 auto transmission, however all his posts have disappeared.edit: I now know why haha
Do you recall what was said about using VCDS in measuring the fluid?

VCDS is used to check the temp of the fluid , not the level. The temp affects the level. procedure must be done properly or you will affect the driveabilty, which goes for any auto, too much or too little fluid causes shift faults. Trans is an 01M. pretty hard to know if you are getting a "good nick" unless you know and trust the seller and they have tested it otherwise its the luck of the draw really. Historically the 01m and 01P have been known for valve body issues as does the new 09G in the newer ones unfortunatley. If diagnosed early the valve bodies can be fixed by havjng them reamed and oversize solenoids fitted. The printed circuit foil has been know to form cracks too which can give shift dramas.
