    Question Mk4 agu sump talk

    Hey guys,

I've smashed the alloy sump for the second time now and the second time left me in a huge pickle stuck in the middle of no where haha. Anyway, what options are there? It is running in a mk1 so engine spacers are out of the question. I'm mostly looking at some sort of shortened sump idea. What's the most a sump can be shortened whilst remaining oem oil capacity?
I've heard a while back ppl run other steel vw sumps and weld in a provision for the turbo return.

I can weld steel myself, so any diy for what steel sumps there are that can work and how much it can be shortened would help heaps.

    Any personal experiences?

By definition, if you shorten it, the capacity will be reduced. Just running the same amount of oil will have the crank beating the oil which isn't good.

You can probably use a steel sump and weld extra capacity to the back of it.

As above, if you can do a low profile one that is winged and baffled, you'll be OK.

That did a bit more research on that, turns out it's not necessarily and shallower, it's just got a metal casing. Looks pretty good actually. However still needs modifying for return line which is costly when welding alloy

Sorry, I am only guessing that a steel sump off a mk1/2/3 might fit. I have no idea if they do or not. Just be easier to find and weld.

Hmmmmm from past experience I know most vw stuff is interchangeable. Anyone know where mk1-3 steel sumps fit mk4?
