MK4 1.8t question: turbo, clutch and suspension

Hey Guys, I was hoping you could answer a few questions.

I Have a second hand stock standard MK4 Gti, 142000k's, had it for 2 years. Recently had its major service, new timing belt etc and is serviced every 6 months. Service history before I bought it was good, but not excellent. As I've experienced first hand the cost of replacing any major mechanical component in this car I was curious as to when I could expect my turbo, clutch and/or suspension to go, and the approximate repair cost. Now I know this will all depend on how it was driven and who I go to, but I was just after a ball park figure.

At the moment all are without issue, but as I'm planning an extended overseas trip within the next 2 years the thought of dropping a few thousand to fix my car is a concern.

    thanks in advance.

I wouldn't worry too much. I've bought second/third hand turbo cars with over 150,000km already and didn't have major problems for years. Most of the time it's just luck (as long as you're not always thrashing it).

Also if money's an issue you gotta learn to DIY, especially with suspension stuff as that's pretty easy.

I haven't changed my suspension yet in my Bora. I've got coilovers planned for this weekend. I was just telling littleGuy it was easy to give him a false sense of hope =P

I've been doing a bit of reading and it seems straightforward, nothing too different from other cars I've done in the past (Nissan, BMW, Audi) except there might be a special tool that has to be used, but first I'll try using the alternate method. I'm sure heaps of other guys on here have done it and can give pointers.

Before doing suspension in my other cars I'd barely even done an oil change or any mechanical work and I found it very doable. You just need the right tools, patience and time. In the end it's a good feeling.

Money is not an issue in the sense that I can't afford it, more that it's less money for the trip. That said I have almost no mechanical knowledge and even less tools to use it with.haha
