    MK IV needs new battery

    Hi Guys

My MK IV has been hard starting latley, I did put a trickle recharge on her last month and it did come up, but last week it was just turning over and today it didn't start

I noticed it is a "recessed" type and not a "flat top" battery, can you buy after market or do you have to buy form VW dealership - I have a VARTA in mine.

If anyone has had his sad experience in changing batterys can you please let me know...where to buy, best price etc

    Thank you

I got mine from battery world. It was in stock and cost about $160 with 3 year warranty.
Install is fairly easy. Remove the battery terminals, fuse panel and battery cover.
There is one bolt down the front with a retaining plate, 15mm bolt I think. The battery terminals are 10mm.

I got one from Battery World last year. I think they have two that will fit, same physical sizes, but different CCA's. i opted for the cheaper off the two as the golf isnt that hard to crank over i figure the extra was a waste of money better spent on batteries for my other cars.

Like JustCrusin said, its an easy swap, should only take about 5 mins. i spent 4 of the 5 mins getting the fuse panel off.

I'm seriously considering a battery relocation and replacement with an Optima Yellow Top...
    Nothing to see here...

you sure it's the battery and not something else?
6 months ago my car wouldn't start, i call NRMA, and he just cranks it over for about 30 seconds, the display comes up as "STOP - OIL PRESSURE"
and then it finnaly starts up. something to do with not enough oil pressure buildup in the hydraulic lifters.
So not sure if it's a sludge build up problem, oil sender or oil pump problem, but lucky me, it apparently happened again last night just before something important was supposed to be done to it

I picked up the exact type I needed from Autobarn when mine died. 550CA or something like that from memory and it had a three year warranty as well. Good price too.
Unless your running wicked doof doof or similar I reckon an Ultima is overkill.
    Cheers,
