Thanks Mark. They don't mention anything other than the key FOB itself. I think us older MKIV guys need to install something too

Just to clarify, my interior light comes on when I unlock the doors - I was just curious if any MKIVs had the driving lights and dash lights come on when you press the remote unlock button. It's a feature on a few cars I know of...

www.keysforvw.com or www.reflextuning.com which is the same company in the States. They charge US$45.

I have just ordered a HAA code key blank and Switchblade Fob from them, as my late 1999/2000 model GTI came with just a VW key only.

    Cheers
Once you get the new blank what is the procedure to have it cut to fit your locks etc ??

yea, my interior light comes on too with the unlocking of the door.

keys for vw asked me all about codes etc.. but as i don't have existing remote functions, I'm only interested in the switchblade key fob and blank key

once it arrives, i'll get it cut locally....ask this forum for relevant places that do dremel cutting, as my UAE forum had a few Dubai suggestions...

I was more wonderng about the imobiliser chip. There is one in the existing key, does that same chip fit into the other or is there some additional programming required.

when i was looking for a replacement key for my car i was told that the only place that can do it is VW, so in Adelaides case, solitaire auto...

went to some specialist locksmiths and they said that they cant do any of the new keys for VW as te chip that you mentioned also needs to be programmed in addition to the key being cut.

when i called the VW dealer (solitaire) they quoted the minimum workshop charge of $80 to program the key, i assume that this would just involve VAGCOM to program the chip, although i may be wrong...

someone else may need to confirm this...
