    Misfire H.e.l.p

    Hi Guys,

    looking for some help.... my bora developed the sniffles this morning... went to take it for a drive and it felt like it wanted to stay in bed!

    Anyway, I ran a VAGCOM data dump and I found the following fault codes relating to misfires:

    Address 01: Engine
    Controller: 022 906 032 BJ
    Component: MOTRONIC ME7.1.1G 0002
    Coding: 0000132
    Shop #: WSC 31414
    2 Faults Found:
    16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
    P0300 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded
    16687 - Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
    P0303 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded
    Readiness: 0010 1101

    I Cleared the codes, took it around the block (no difference) then dumped data again:

    Control Module Part Number: 022 906 032 BJ
    Component and/or Version: MOTRONIC ME7.1.1G 0002
    Software Coding: 0000132
    Work Shop Code: WSC 31414
    2 Faults Found:
    16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
    P0300 - 008 - Implausible Signal
    16687 - Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
    P0303 - 008 - Implausible Signal

    Can anybody shed some light on this, could it be a coil or led issue?

    My V6 Bora was coming up with the same message and it turned out to be the MAF which is apparently fairly common. Try disconnecting the MAF and take it for a drive. If it runs better then that is probably the go.

    However I have heard of problems with the coils but touch wood I haven't yet. My 4mo has done over 150,000k's.

    AHHH not the MAF!!!

    Isnt the MAF necessary, or can i run it disconnected till next mon?

    It will run fine without the MAF. Just uses a differnt map in the computer apparently. When my MAF went it would run better when it was warm but just not as well as it should and obviously it used more fuel too. So its your choice.

    If it is the coil you may not get any codes- at least I didn't when my coil pack went faulty.

    Good luck.

    P.S. check that any of your spark plugs haven't worked loose...

    Swap that #3 coilpack to another cylinder and see if the fault moves with it for starters.

    Looks like it could be a heap of things though.

    Yeah that random misfire code is a common one when a pencil coil goes and sound like the ecu has picked no3 and like Gav says swap it with no4 . Erase the codes and restart and recheck it should now give random misfire and misfire on no4. Then you have the offender pinpointed. Common as.

    Thanks for your advice Gavin and Jmac, its the same thing that a mechanic mate said today, but as I had visitors over for dinner this evening, my troubleshooting time was cut short.

    Can you give me some quick instructions on removing the coilpacks? I'll admit to not taking the cover off my engine yet.

    Also, I disconnected the MAF this arvo and took it for a spin...no improvement, infact it prob felt worse,, stalled once. So I think I might be safe with the coilpack.

    Just for you info its COIL on PLUGS not Coil Packs Coil Packs are waht are on the old OBD 12V VR6



    Heres what my Coil Packs Looked like (there has been a revision released too)

    Change you Plugs too

    and the MAF all at the same time
    - 2010 Golf R
