Its a common fault. About $65 is right. I have always removed the door trim to get them out so as not to damage the trim on the door.

    Passat adjuster

    Hi All,

I'd be keen to see what the Passat one looks like.....it appears that almost everyone here has broken at least one mirror adjuster knob so if the Passat one is different, it might be a good idea.

I guess one of us could post a question in the Passat section and see if we can get a pic, before we all rush out and buy one each.

    Mirror adjuster

    Hi,

It appears that many of us with MK4s have an issue with breaking off the adjustment knob for the rear view mirrors. It is a small knob on the door trim where you select either left or right mirror and then use the knob as a kind of joy stick to adjust the mirror. It was mentioned earlier that the Passat B5 has a different arrangement...similar system but no knob for adjusting the mirrors.

If it was a straight swap, it might be a great fix for an obviously common fault with the Golf. If you could help, that would be great.

    Thanks

    Hi All,

certainly looks a lot less fragile than the joy stick on the golf.

It looks like we would need to replace the trim around the door handle as well as the adjustment switch.

I am wondering how closely the wiring matches between the Golf and Passat.

Could be an interesting little project for someone to try.......if no one has tried it already.
