BUMPITTY BUMP!!

For your car, any oil must have at least one of these specs on the label:
VW 502.00 or VW 504.00
For viscosity grade, stick with 5W-30 or 5W-40.
But I think you might be better off with a 5W-40 oil, given the car's age.
Awesome! thanks for the reply mate!
I will definitely look for the VW certification numbers, but just wondering about the grade...
I looked up the Mobil 1 site (def not only looking for mobil), and it suggested the oil for my car is: Mobil 1 0W40.
What is the difference between 5W40 and 0W40 ? There's also a 'High Mileage' Mobil oil that's 10W40, so what's the diff?

It looks like with the time constraints, I'll have to get either mobil oil from GL Lubricants, or other brands from 'standard' places like: repco, supercheap, autobarn, etc.. Unless there is somewhere better on a Sat Morn?

Again, BIG thanks!

Basically, you need to use an oil with a HTHS of more than 3.5, otherwise it'll be too thin for your engine. Hence, VW 502 and 504 prevents you from using oils that are too thin, irrespective of viscosity (that's really the only reason why I said to use 502 or 504 oils).
All ACEA A1/B1/A5/B5 oils have a HTHS of <3.5 (which rules them out) and all ACEA A3/B3/B4 oils have a HTHS >3.5 (which VW 502 and 504 is based on).
Viscosity rating itself is not a sufficient indicator. For example, M1 5W-30 ESP has a HTHS>3.5 (acceptable), but M1 5W-30 has a HTHS<3.5 (unacceptable).
The first number indicates how well it flows when the engine is cold (lower numbers flow better and vice versa).
The second number indicates the viscosity at operating temps (lower numbers are thinner, and vice versa).
A 0W-40, 5W-40 and 10W-40 will roughly have the same viscosity at operating temps, but the 0W-40 oil will flow better when the engine is cold, followed by 5W-40, and then 10W-40.
Given the same price, I'd go with M1 0W-40, but any synthetic 5W-40 oil will be fine as well. And unless you're experiencing significant issues with oil consumption or leakage, then you don't really need a 10W-40 oil.
Awesome! Mega Thanks!!!![]()

Hey mate,
On my last service (exact same car as yours) I used the Castrol Edge 5W-30 A3/B4 from repco and seems to be fine. I'd also reccomend getting some injector cleaner fluid. Basically just add half the bottle in your tank when it's empty and put a full tank of high octane petrol in.
