    if you wanna go that low, coilovers are your best bet. also, sydney ruts = coilovers up, cruising down through the national park = coilovers down.

    also, did you say you wanted to do some serious work to the motor in time to come? it's a lot more expensive to work on a 2.0 8v NA, as compared to the gti which comes standard with a turbo motor.

    if your planning to go shocks & spring...might as well go coilovers as some of the other guys have mentioned. make sure you get the right info on how low you can go with the coilovers.

    Something you'll have to factor into the budget as well is changing the front sway bar, if you go lower than about 40mm (1.6") it's almost certain the stock bar will hit on the drive shafts.

    coilovers and swaybars go so well together anyway.

    with hottuning, the ones matt has, they go quite low.. infact, lower than h&r ultra low. so like... if wheels, guards, clearances permit, 5"...?
