    Talking Low frequency vibrations when turning

    Hi,

    Has anyone experienced loud vibrations when turning sharply?
    My 2001 V6 4Mo Bora produces a noisy vibration when taking low speed turns greater then 90 degrees. The closer i am to steering lock or faster i go, the louder and more violent the problem becomes.

    Problem is not apparent at speed or light turning, at speed the Bora is a dream that floats effortlessly down the M4 in Sydney =)

    Its had all service intervals followed, just emerged 2 days ago from its 120,000km rub & tug @ VW in Parramatta.

    Its not all bad news, my girl friend loves the vibrating sensation, she says it's just like her Rabbit.

    nevertheless I was hoping someone out there could help me find and fix the problem, before i find my beautiful Bora packed with girls doing donuts in the carpark....

    Read the recent post about diff oil. It could be that the rear diff (not the Haldex) needs an oil change.

    If its comming from the front while turning at low speeds greater than a 90 degree turn, it sounds to me that it could be a CV Joint issue in the one or both of the front drive shafts...But thats just me.

    Thank for the reply guys, i'll head over to VW and see what they say. i should have enough to point them in the right direction, saving them some time and money.

    yes, 2 new Proxies4 on the front.
    existing CDrives on the back.

    Vibrations started 4 months after the new tyre config, used to have 4 CDrives.

    If it is the CV joints / shafts- be prepared for a whopping bill- approx $800-900 each side for the 4Motion (parts only - outer CV's)

    Update

    Thought you all might like to know I've done some testing.

    Believe the cause might be the Haldex coupling;
    1.Accelerating through corners will make the noise/Vibration
    2.Costing through the same corners at the same speed and it's all quiet, only having a problem when i get back on the pedal, very interesting.

    The good news is this might rule out CV & rear Diff issues, bad new is Haldex problems can be very costly.

    I'm determined to get into Delno Parra. before the end of Aug.

    Update

    As promised, heres the update if any of you are interested, hope it saves you time and money.

    I just got back from the service centre; For those in a rush, the problem has not been fixed, although a lot quieter.

    Diagnosis from VW:
    "Fault to worm O/S/F tie rod end, and lower control arm worn"
    "O/S & N/S CV boots torn and CV joints worn out causing noise on RH turns"

    New parts required:
    Tie Rod - $291.31
    Track Control Arm - $281.01
    2x Front drive shaft - $200.00

    Labour -$385.00
    Total - $1350.83 (193.51 Tax)

    So i got the call, "all new parts in, and tested all OK" said VW. I paid the bill and got excited about taking it for a test drive.
    Immediately she groaned with a similar noise & vibration, however much quieter then before. But i groaned disappointedly, making up the missing decibels. VW's explaination for this was that the above new parts needed to "settle in". Can you all say FOB off?
    i don't remember hearing anything when i picked her up new when the WHOLE car was "settling in". hang on, hold up, I shouldn't be so harsh! I can't expect them to be experts on this topic, it's not like they're qualified VW.. service.... oh wait.....oops.

    So maybe there is a unspoken settling-in-law or maybe they didn't want to spot me a Cabcharge to get home, but we agreed I would take it for the weekend and see how it goes, it's the least I can do after all it was the mechanic who slaved away in the under-carriage for 2 days while all I did was drop the car off and pay the bills, I should be so lucky. Maybe I’ve stumbled upon some car whisperer with an affinity to cars.

    The good news is that all parts have 2 years warranty, as they are new OEM. The bad news is it’s hard to who to trust now... not only did I not get what I paid for, but they have shown very little concern for the outcome. If I wanted to be treated like this I would have spoken to a politician

    In addition to the above costs, i was advised my two "Engine fans low speed inop." and they needed to be replaced at:
    $365.34 VW1J0959455R
    $408.69 VW1J0959455S

    Giving a Grand Total of $2124.86

    From here I'm going to get a 2nd opinion from NRMA & 3rd party mechanic. Lets hope VW have done everything right, i don't really want to write a letter to the Ombudsman/fair trading, those letters take too much effort >.<

    Problem still apparent - quick update

    Gave the service centre another chance on Tuesday.

    Problem was traced to tyre rubbing on guard.
    Guard was pinned back and tested OK - No Charge

    all ok for 2 days, then all of a sudden while taking a round-a-bout... BRRRRRMM

    So its getting ugly. I'm going through with my 2nd opinion and having all the work scrutinised. Payment contestant has also gone in to my credit card.

    Not happy Jan.
