Looking at buying a Ventilated wheel-arch Liner.

I'm looking into the possibility of getting hold of the factory ventilated wheel arch liner for my GTI to help with air flow through the intercooler. So just as an initial toe in the water, would anyone else here be interested in splitting costs and getting hold of this part, pending availability/pricing?

I know it won't be cheap and won't be everyone's cup of tea, and yes I know I could do a ghetto mod for it, but I like the idea of a bolt in factory part better.

Happy to do the homework on it if there are interested parties.

    Cheers,

    Snowy.

I believe you can buy a grille off a TT that you cut into the liner and secure with pop rivets.

    Also, bin that pancake pipe!!

Yeah mate the thing is to do that you have to buy the TT wheel arch liner anyway and then cut the grill part out of it and then put it into your existing liner with screws/pop rivets. I just thought instead of that buy the vented MK4 factory part to start with.

There's always the Bunning's grill mod but I'd prefer the factory liner.

PS.The pancake pipe shown in the pic is not my car. But I have tried the Neuspeed pipe and it ended up with a hole in it after about 60 seconds.

Snowy, I looked to do this when I had my MK4 GTI.

    http://www.vw.ca/vwcms/master_public...city_golf.html

The link above is from the City Golf in Canada. It is based on the MK4 also.
I once found the part number, vortex I think. However VW Oz did not want to get it in. Maybe you could try a source it from US/Canada markets.

The City Golf comes with the OEM side vent, perfect for the intercooler. Although the City Golf is N/A.

Good luck with the search, I trust this info helps...

Which models had a factory fit? I'd be interested depending on price (do you have a rough idea?)

Your right on all counts mate, that Canadian Model was apparently the only MK4 with the vented liner. The part number is (1JM 809 962 A). I've beem chatting with a guy on Vortex who works at a dealership, he gave me the part number and the photo I posted is the liner fitted to his car. I thought if there were a few interested here we might be able to get him to put a decent deal together for us (If he will that is). I've seen $72.00 USD mentioned for the dealer RRP.

    Can't hurt to try.

    Cheers,

Doesn't sound too bad. By the time you get a TT liner and hack it up.

Put me down for one providing the price doesn't get too scary once you add postage.

Edit: Just did a quick google

Mate, I saw that site but when I put 1 in the cart to test the shipping estimate it was ridiculous. Maybe if I approach them with a potential order of several units they might negotiate and sharpen their pencils on the shipping, the product price itself is a good starting point.

That Canadian Golf City is a weird looking concoction, it's like a cross between a MK4 and a MK5.

    Ok mate,

I have contacted them and asked if someone could please check the shipping price, and if we were to order 5, can they negotiate a better price considering the items are plastic, not heavy, and could all be slid together neatly so that 5 items would be a package the same size as one item.

Worth a try, let's see what they come back with.
