Looking to buy a Golf GTI

    Hi Guys,

I've been looking at a couple of Golf GTIs and have narrowed down my search and just wanted some opinions!

There are a couple of questions I have regarding leaks and some ticking noises:

There is a leak coming from the brass hose coming into what looks like the power steering pump. Are the pumps/lines easy to replace, and can you use pumps from other motors? Here is a photo of the pump if anyone wants to have a look: http://i.imgur.com/3VXOAPE.jpg

Another leak/build up is on the gearbox mount. There is a build up of oil on the mount, mainly on the gearbox side, with a tiny bit of liquid oil. I wiped it clean, then came and had a look the next day, and there was no new oil on the mount, but it had only been driven about 2km overnight. Is there any common faults with the gearbox leaking oil, or any lines I couldn't see that might be leaking oil on the mount?

The final question I have is these engines seem to make a fair bit of ticking noises, I recorded a video and if someone who has a bit more of an idea can let me know if these are normal? (The three cars I had a look at today all made similar sounds, although this one seemed to make a little bit more from that carbon box). The video is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_JG...ature=youtu.be

Other than that, the car has no electrical issues which I hear is a big plus, pulls fine for a 110kw car. Also in terms of recalls / upgrades is there anything that I should check to see if it has been done?

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Noises sound ok.
The carbon canister fuel vapor thingy make heaps of ticking noises so don't fret.
It looks like you have a coolant leak on the right side near battery. I see lots of pink, red coolant dries pink. There is a junction there on the end of the block which often crack also has a sensor in the top and the seal can go on those too.

The only recall is for the ABS you should see a silver sticker on drivers door frame.
Has the car been modified? Very common to be chipped to about 145-150kw
