Is this legal in australia - Tail Light Protective Film - Gun Smoke (12%)

    Volkswagen Golf IV 1.8T > Lighting > Tail Light > ES#1873346 Tail Light Protective Film - Gun Smoke (12%) - VW202-GS

I have a 99 GTI black magic in colour, would the above be legal to fit to tail lights in australia or better off with real after market smoked rear tail lights?

    thanks

No modification to the light housings that reduces light output is legal in australia.

Best bet is to source some hella black casings with clear glass.

It's about time they got all the old sh#t box commadores off the road with the "white brake lights" instead of pulling people like us! lol

In the UK you could tint them but by law you needed to add reflectors as the lamp was now no longer reflective, so just made it look poo with reflector stuck on your bumper!

I see plenty of cars with them. I even see a Holden with clear tails that hasn't changed his brake lights to be red on a daily basis.

Don't use night shades. Looks like chit.

Get some vinyl and play around with how dark you want them. The light output will be plenty bright enough. If you get pulled over for them, take the vinyl off.

    This is the truth.
I'd just buy the smoked tails, or otherwise some automotive paint places can tint them for you, a guy in melbourne quoted me around $100 per light a while back

I didn't like the hella smoked tails. I'll look around for some pictures of my old car with the tails smoked, think I've got some pictures of mine next to a buddy's with Hellas. I bought a set of tails off of eBay sanded them and had a buddy (professional painter) hit them with some black, very light coats then clear.

If I was to do it again, I'd probably just use vinyl.

In that case i'd do that again, that's exactly what the paint guy said he would do, except i can't remember what tint he said they'd use. All i remember is that he said to stay away from night shades and i would have to agree, that stuff is horrible
