    KYB vs. KONI vs. BILSTEIN

    Hi all,

    The struts in my golf are almost shot and i'm looking to do a decent performance upgrade.

    From My research, these three brands seem to be the norm, I can't justify the money for kw's. The other brand is Tokico, a Japanese company.

    Just after some info on people's experiences with these brands.

    Specifically i am looking at:
    Koni Specials
    Bilstein B6
    KYB AGX

    Stage 2+ Intercooler Carbon Intake Downpipe Swaybar DV+ Remsa.

    What springs are you using? I had a set of 35mm lowered springs with KYB AGX on the stiffest setting and the car was AWESOME! I actually liked the combo more than my KWs...

    They say that they aren't the best shock in terms of adjustabilty, but they do adjust (and you notice it a bit), and they are REALLY cheap from Ebay USA.

    For the same price, look at getting Koni SRT

    have a look at www.tirerack.com - prices there are quite competitive, and with Oz$ up to .78 importing is getting more attractive.

    (you'll need to add around $200 for shipping and allow another say 25% for local taxes if the ex US price exceeds AU$1000)

    I'm running a full set of custom King springs. one of the advantages of working with an affiliated company

    I was looking at ECS tuning, if I got them through them I would probably organise a group buy of stuff if people were interested... $200 for shipping isn't bad, worked out at around $500 USD wich is approx $730 AUD, add $200 and it's still almost $450 cheaper than any Australian price for Konis!!

    Bboy, thanks for your comments, I am actually leaning towards KYB as I know of a few people that use them in racing circles...The fact that they're properly adjustable, unlike Koni's which are to compensate for wear, is more attractive especially considering the cost!

    I've got Eibach springs mated 2 blisteins and have never looked back since

    I put a fresh set of Bilsteins in my Bora before Christmas and am very impressed with them. A little prices, but awesome shocks.

    Tiguan TDI, 6spd Tiptronic Auto

    Well, I have made a decision regarding my shocks, I'm either going with the KYB AGX adjustables OR a custom built set of take-aparts that I can infinetly tune to be perfectly matched to the car.

    Obviously the 2nd option is prefered, especially as I sit next to 3 suspension engineers at work, BUT, if I do have to go down the path of the KYB's, does anyone have or know of a recommended importer/supplier of AGXs? I have contacted KYB Australia and they told me (which I know is a lie) that KYB don't make the AGX series for the VW Golf!!!

    I'm concerned about buying over the net unless I can get a guarantee that the shocks and struts that turn up will be what I order, so is there anyone out in Dub land that has bought shocks offshore and imported them?

    I bought my KYBs (for a Liberty) from Auto Sportique in Lidcombe. I'm not sure if they import themselves or just get via KYB Aus.
