Bent strut dude, I've had the same problem more than once on different cars, everything else is the after effect.

With the inner cv housing, it tends to wear out and cause play, and this play is evident when accelerating and coasting. Inner cv's cannot be tested by full lock, only way is to change them. No guarantee that this is the problem but I had this in my Mk3.

yeah pretty sure its CV or bearings now.
Swapped wheels and hardware over and sound is still there. cant see anything out of the norm in regards to hubs/brakes/driveshaft

The inner cv is always running straight, never turns........maybe the slight angle on a bump etc. They most times never make a noise. If u take the cv boot off you will notice round burnt marks on the metal cv housing from the ball bearings over heating. that is a sign that they are worn.

Sounds like axle bind to me, try losening your engine mount bolts and try shifting your engine to the drivers side. Might not fix it, but it's a free solution. Worked for me.

well Volkwerke went over lots of things on the car.
doesn't seem to be a bearing, subframe bolts are all nice and tight, only 1 control arm bush has just split.
so currently thinking cv joint or just my coilovers just getting old.
