Bumping up 'cause my silly ugly loud/slow Bora is making a feral noise from what appears to be front right (but definitely front susp somewhere). Its a flapping noise at any speed like a bit of cardboard or plastic flapping) but I have checked the plastic aero stuff. I don't have a belly pan guard and most of my wheels guards are gone or chopped off so nothing is hitting the tyres.
I suspect something suspension related, but the wierd thing now is that when i downshift to 2nd the car gives a shudder and sounds like something dragging on the ground...
Sorry to throw up such horrible adjectives but its the best i got.
mount or something not broken?
I am thinking either engine mounts, dogbone (common fault and likely given how much of a pounding i give the car) or possibly something worse.... How to check engine mounts?
get someone to load the car up and see how much the engine moves around would be my bet.
both reverse and forward
amazingly, all engine mounts incl dogbone are fine. Freaking thats 258,000 kms on stock engine mounts with hard driving and a chip for alst 100,000 kms.
Anyway, turns out left front wheel bearing has given up on life and has 1.5inches of play lol. Hopefully the hub is ok.
1.5"!!!!! how are you alive?
dude he said it was insane lol but out on the road all you can her are rather faint clicking noises. Drives true (slightest pull to left if anything) and accelerates and brakes in a straight line. Have done at least 1,500 kms on it lol
How could the bearing move 1.5 inches, it is barely that big to begin with.
Maybe 1.5mm ??
no no, the bearing was so shot I had 1.5in on play in the top of the tyre. Car was up on a hoist and old mate moves wheel, wheel has 1.5in play. Hence bearing giving up on life.
