Keyless Entry

Hey all,

I am currently getting an aftermarket alarm system installed. Previously my 2000 golf, did not have keyless entry or an alarm system. Now, the person installing the alarm system could not get the keyless entry to work. Every things else is fine and functional. He says however that the central lock and unlock might be done via computer???

Can someone chime in? Got any ideas>

Hi Augy, my 2000 Golf GTI does not have keyless entry either. I actually visited the VW service centre yesterday to enquire about this and also asked if the remote may have been lost by a previous owner. I was told that the remote keyless entry was a $500~ option until about 2002 so it was very likely that it was not a fitted option when mine was purchased brand new - my key has a VW button that shines a small light. The clerk also said that you should avoid aftermarket alarms as the securty in the Golfs (deadlocks, immobiliser with transponder in the keys) is already excellent and things may start to interefere with the electronics in aftermarket systems. It's happened a number of times on these forums so keep your warranty handy.

I guess that's bitter sweet. I wanted to get keyless entry, but it is good to hear that the immobilizer is good protection.

I actually was planning to get keyless entry, then delete the key hole on the front doors. That way people cannot stick a screw driver inside, turn, and therefore lower all my windows.
