Key transponder detected by door lock

    Dumb question.... but please answer!

Can I use a key without transponder to open my drivers door? Or will this set the alarm off?

Unlocking the door turns off the alarm anyway. So no issues with using an uncoded key.

    Alarm on?

Do you need the coded key to set the alarm though?

A flip key still has an immobiliser and the remote can be coded by the owner, the key to start the engine needs to be coded with VCDS or by a dealer.

It is possible to have a working remote and inoperative key and vice versa.

A solid key has an immobiliser chip, which allows the engine to start, mechanically unlock the door and turn off the alarm if one were fitted.

A key with no chip would unlock the car and turn off the alarm but not allow the engine to start.
