That will also depend what belt is fitted in your engine now. Is it the OEM belt or aftermarket? Also, is the engine modified or not? It's not so simple to answer. I would suggest 100,000km or 5 years, wichever comes first.
Aplologies if this question has beeb covered off elsewhere on this forum (I did a search).
Last time I checked the timing belt on a 2.0 Golf 4 needs to be changed every 60,000Kms or 4 years. I understand that the service advice now is 7 years or 100,000Kms... however, I can't remember the source for this information. Can anyone knowlegable on this topic confim the recommended intervals?

It is an aftermarket belt and the car has no mods. When the belt was changed last I also did the tensioner and the water pump (metal impeller). Thanks for the advice.
