    Noise in dash

    Hi,

I am hoping someone would be able to help me identify a noise that is coming from the dash on the passenger side (it is most prominent under dash).

It started intermittent but goes consistently now.

    This is the sound

It could be an air flow flap motor. Motor 71v or some such.
Does it go away if you press the re-circ button ?

So the noise is an ac flap motor. Probably motor v71. The motor moves to a predefined position, gets a fault, the system tries again, it gets a fault, the system try again....
There could be a problem with the motor cogs etc or the flap movement may be getting blocked/stuck or their may be a wiring issue.

You should get a proper VAG COM scan to tell you which motor it is. There are several. v70 & v71 are common.

Knowing my car and the problems with things made of plastic I reckon its likely to be the cogs or a broken arm to the flap itself.

This vid shows the flaps moving, you could check this yourself but removing the pollen filter ans looking into the air intake.

The design and therefore repair is different from LHD to RHD, so the Bentley guide is not going to help too much. A replacement job looks fiddly and time consuming.
Expect to pay about $200 for the motor. Part number 1J1 907 511 A.

Justcruisin seems to have hit the nail on the head with his detailed reply but for me it:

sounds like one of these stuck under your dash!
