Windscreens. Where to get them? (Other from VW Genuine)

    GDay all,

Car went through a roadworthy check today and not surprisingly, I need a new windscreen. Seems the previous QLD owner must've liked driving down the coast and have sandblasted the crap out of it. No chance for a fill-in resin.

VW has quoted me $440 for a new windscreen.

Anyone ever used aftermarket before? And where can I source one?

I have removed windscreens in the past, I could do the same at the wreckers, just not sure how to properly check a roadworthy one. I have an installer that will fit a screen for $80 cash.

    Any help?

    Thanks!

    Windscreens O'brien?

Should be heaps of windscreen places around.

$440 isn't too bad a price for a European car.

O'Brien is second to extortion. Their prices are ridiculous!

I know it's not that bad but I'm still trying to see if I can get one cheaper

Shannons installed a new one for me after a stone chip. Maybe see if your insurance company can fix the issue?

Thanks, but on my policy windscreen cover is an option that you have to pay for. I never did.
Would love to be insured by Shannons but they wont insure me due to my age and not having a 'enthusiast' car according to their standards.

Could always pay the extra on insurance, make the claim, then don't continue the windscreen cover next year. I think mine was only about $30-50/year extra.

Or glass polish could also be an option depending on the damage

Im with NRMA and I recently got my windscreen replaced for free at Obrien. It's like an extra 4-$5 a month for the windscreen cover and you get any chips or small cracks repaired for free. So its not a bad option.
